Charles Pratt had eight children, seven of which who settled in Glen Cove and built the country house well win which was Harold Irving Pratt’s home, which had about 204 acres running all the way down to Long Island sound. Babb, Cook & Welsh designed the home. It was originally a wooden structure as well as most of the other Pratt children’s homes were wooden homes at the time and by 1906 it was completed but underwent several renovations including another renovation and addition in 1912 1913 and then around about 1920 Harold Pratt and his wife had hired Delano & Aldrich and they decided to take the home and modify it updated a little bit he actually renovated the home keeping the same footprint didn’t start from scratch he actually refaced the house and brick the mansard roof was taken off the home and the second floor roof line was elevated to hide the third floor with the servants bedrooms were in the house well when would fall right in the middle of scale and size of the country homes land wise well when it was much more substantial than some of the other homes in the area and the Pratts were certainly the largest landholders and probably built more country houses than any other family
