#HomeGoals – Managing expectations vs. budget

>>I see at least
3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 floors,
open concept, 2 car garage, a nice master.
Ensuite, walk-in closet. It’s been really hard,
I only saw one listing that checked off
all the marks, but it’s not in the
right neighbourhood.>>Hi, I’m Ashley Bloomfield, YouTuber, new mom,
and your host. Now I am no real estate agent,
but I know from experience how difficult it can be
to find the perfect place that feels like home. So over the next
5 episodes we will be following
young home buyers as they search for
the perfect place. This is Home Goals.>>Raising a family
in the city can be a little bit
difficult at times. I think all parents can agree
that our little babies don’t stay little
for very long, and a home that was
once a perfect fit can quickly become too small,
like our next family. Let’s meet with Grace to learn
more about her dream home.>>Hi, I’m Grace and this is Audrey
and she is 11 months old. My husband bought
this property pre-build, so about 6 years ago, and it was just
completed last year. It’s not good for babies,
and I kind of want to be on the same floor with my kids,
just incase they need me, so before baby number two,
I’d like to buy a house. I want a house where
we can live in for at least the next 10 years where
my kids can grow up, where they have
a backyard to run around, a great neighbourhood.
I still want the city vibe. I kind of know
what I like. When I met with the agent,
he was super helpful. He just seemed super
knowledgable about the buying and
selling process. To buy a house,
I would have to sell first, so that is
a big consideration. I have to have my financing
and everything ready to go. My top three is:
move-in ready, three bathrooms –
I’m very big on this bathroom thing,
and at least 3 bedrooms. I have to absolutely love
the place before I move, like, it has to be
a hundred percent perfect. Not that much, right?
(laughs)>>Ashley:
Let’s check out the listing.>>Grace: Hi Ashley,
how’s it going?>>Ashley:
Good, how are you?>>This is Audrey.>>Hi Audrey!
So you ready to head on in?>>Yeah, let’s go in! Oh wow!>>Ashley:
So welcome.>>This is nice.>>Ashley:
This is like a living room/ dining room area
that you walk into.>>Grace: It’s very open.
>>Ashley: Yes.>>Husband:
It’s super open.>>Grace:
I love this.>>Ashley:
Is there anything you would rearrange
about the space?>>Maybe put the
dining room back here, and have that just
as living area.>>Husband: It’s definitely
a great entertainment space. Let’s go!>>Ashley: The master bedroom
is right this way ->>Grace:
It’s nice and big. Oh, and it has a
little balcony! That’s nice.>>Ashley: She’ll have
her own washroom.>>Grace:
It’s a nice size!>>Ashley: And then
the rest of the bedroom here.>>Grace: Yeah,
this is a great bedroom. Something for her
to grow into.>>Ashley: So this is
another room, and nice little feature brings
in natural light all day long.>>Oh, this is
a nice deck!>>It is. Very cute
how the doors open>>Ashley: So it’s
a great big open space.>>Husband: Yeah,
it’s actually not bad.>>It’s a nice size lawn,
not too much for you to mow.>>Husband: Great,
sounds great.>>Ashley: Let’s see
what they’ve learned from their agent. So I know that you met
with your real estate agent and he mentioned that in order
for you to find your dream home, you will have to sell
your current home first ->>Yes.>>And with buying and
selling comes staging. I thought we could play
a little staging game, are you ready to play?>>Sure, let’s do this.>>True or false: most
people judge a home within the first 6 seconds
of walking in it.>>True.>>Ha-ha!>>Yay!>>Correct. Question number two,
choose a different colour palate for each room so every space
looks a bit unique.>>False.>>Correct. It gives
the home buyer or the person who’s looking
at the home the option to add and take away
what they want.>>You kind of want everything
to flow, have a cohesive look.>>And the last question:
glass coffee tables add airiness,
making the space seem bigger.>>True.>>Correct! And why
do you say true?>>’Cause I have one
in my condo and it makes it
seem bigger.>>Well thank you so much for
playing the game with me. You get a home for free!
Just kidding.>>Grace:
This house is amazing. It has everything
I was looking for.>>Husband:
I’m a kitchen guy, and the kitchen was definitely
a great entertaining space.>>My initial impressions
with this neighbourhood was a little bit
too residential, it’s not very
“city vibey” for me. I also don’t know anything about
the schools in the area. I might have to compromise
on what I’m looking for in a house to find something
within our budget.>>Husband: For the time being,
it’s just – we can afford to wait a little bit.>>Grace: And who knows?
The market might change in a couple months.>>Ashley: Though this house
was a great match for Grace, with budget in mind, it looks like her and her family
are gonna have to do a lot of compromising before
they make their final decision, but we’ll follow up to see
where they land in the end. I’ll see you guys next time
on Home Goals.
