When looking at asset optimization
Dexter offers an imbalance forecaster and an optimal policy algorithm
to trade flexible assets in the ultra-short-term range, so almost real-time. Flexible assets are for example large-scale
batteries, curtailable renewable parks or flexible combined-heat-and-power units. The revenues coming from those assets
are being obtained from the day-ahead and intra-day market,
but with Dexter’s algorithms these revenues can be augmented by trading
on the imbalance market in real-time. The imbalance forecaster for
the Netherlands is currently 86% accurate with respect to a perfect forecast.
So what does this mean? So when looking at a 1 MW/1MWh battery,
this means that the battery is able to achieve a gross margin of €73k per year, this is including
degradation costs. With these algorithms energy companies
maximise revenues. But what is equally important is that they
help balancing the grid. And grid balancing is one of the biggest
challenges in the energy transition.
